Every Second Counts

Yakima Regional is home of the region’s only 15-minute ER guarantee, which means patients will be assessed and triaged within 15 minutes of entering the ER. Time can make the critical difference when saving lives, and the first 30 minutes are often the key, and at Yakima Regional we want to ensure that patients receive appropriate and timely care.

Regional’s secure emergency department design supports the separation of critically ill patients from those requiring urgent or minor injury care by providing two separate entrances; one for patients arriving on foot, and one for EMS ambulances, rescue and paramedics delivering patients. This makes it easier for everyone to get the care they need as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Cardiac Care

Any patient entering the ER with cardiac symptoms will receive the highest quality of care. YRMCC’s “door to balloon” time, or the time it takes from when the patient walks through the door until angioplasty is performed, is more than 40 minutes less than the average found by the American Heart Association of 100 minutes. Patients entering the ER with any kind of chest pain are immediately admitted and monitored by an EKG to determine if catheterization is needed.

Yakima Regional was recently named an "Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI" by the Society for Chest Pain Centers. This distinction means that we are able to provide a higher level of cardiac care to patients with chest pain. We have the tools and experience to quickly and efficiently diagnose and treat all patients arriving in the ER with cardiac symptoms.

The Fast Track

Yakima Regional’s ER makes every second count, with a “fast track” system where patients who require less acute care can be treated efficiently. Fast Track patients include those who have cold or flu symptoms, sprains, eye infections, small cuts, and other medical problems that are not considered critical.

SANE Nurses

YRMCC’s emergency room also features Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) to help victims of sexual assault. SANE nurses receive special training that can help them deal with the emotional and physical needs of a patient who has been sexually assaulted. Yakima Regional has 5 certified SANE nurses.

Convenient, Quality Care

All of our Emergency Department physicians are board certified, and we offer bedside registration, which allows patients more privacy and can expedite the ER process. Our ER is newly renovated and has been expanded to 21 beds, including 2 trauma rooms and a decontamination room, all featuring bedside computers. All of the equipment in the ER is state of the art, allowing even the most severely injured patients to be stabilized. We are a level III trauma center.
